Announcing The Jackson Laboratory,
Urban Achievement Award
The Jackson Laboratory Urban Achievement Award seeks to promote participation by students in Connecticut State Department of Education-defined Opportunity Districts, a subset of Alliance School Districts, who represent the 10 lowest performing school districts in the state. Opportunity School Districts include:
Bridgeport School District New Britain School District
Derby School District New Haven School District
East Hartford School District New London School District
East Haven School District Norwich School District
Hartford School District Waterbury School District

Through The Jackson Laboratory Urban Achievement Award, individuals/teams at the Elementary, Middle and High school level will receive cash prizes in the Prototype and Development Challenge categories. Building off the scoring criteria outlined by the Coding Challenge, additional weight will be given to projects that have a Bioscience/Public Health/medical innovation focus. The Jackson Laboratory will assist in recruiting employees to serve as mentors and judges for both this category, and the coding challenge as a whole.
